Dams, Caverns and Canyons Oh my! 7 days.

We are staying at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas both nights we are there.  It's centrally located on the strip and CHEAP.  Did I mention that we are budgets for this awesome adventure?  We'd rather spend the extra money on fun stuff.  We don't plan on being in the room except to sleep.  I just hope their aren't too many creepers there.

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.  So I may or may not report our Hangover-ish escapades.

So as of right now, we are hoping to wake up early on Tuesday to head for the Grand Canyon.  I want to see the Hoover Dam.  Stella has already seen it and suggests that we arrive early to avoid big crowds of people.  Not sure how early we will wake up though since we will be recovering from our stop in Sin City!

Let's hope we don't leave with any crazy tattoos or husbands.  haha.

Imperial Palace Las Vegas to the Hoover Dam 36.7 miles, 51 mins

Off to the Hoover Dam!  It's about an hour away from Las Vegas.  I can only imagine the size of this dam from movies that I've seen so I can't wait to see it in person.  I don't think we are planning on stopping for long at this site.  I just want some nice pictures.  I do know that they have a few different tours that you can select from, but all of them cost money.  It costs money, just to go into the visitor center.

Hoover Dam
Off to the Grand Canyon!!  I heard there was a skywalk that let's you walk out over the canyon.  Scary but awesome.  I'd love to go but not sure if it's worth it.  You have to pay $70-some dollars to go out on it.  It's on an Indian Reservation that charges you to be on their land, then charges you for different sites that you want to see.  I also read that it's a lot of dirt roads to get to the destination.  They do provide lunch in some packages.  But they don't allow you to bring any person items onto the skywalk do nothing it dropped on the glass.  They will take pictures of you but you have to buy them.  So I'm torn.  I guess we will see how much time, money and what type of rental car we end up with.
Grand Canyon Skywalk
Since we may or may not go to the skywalk, I definately want to go to the Grand Canyon Caverns!  I had no idea this was even an option and honestly I don't remember how I found it....all I know is that I want to go!  Besides the corny yet awesome fake dinosaurs they have placed around the caverns, its one of the largest dry caverns in the US.

The Hoover Dam to Grand Canyon Caverns 126 miles, 2 hours 18 mins

A 30 minute tour is $16.95 for adults.  I'm in!  And if you have gobs of money, you can even stay in the cavern over night.  They have a bedroom set up down there somewhere.  Personally, I don't think I could stay down there.  I've seen too many scary cave movies and my imagination is too creative.  But I'm definately game to take a little tour into the caverns.

I think Stella is more excited about driving along Route 66. She's heard a lot about Rt 66 alot wanted to check it out.  I did hear that part of the stretch of Route 66 we will be driving on was part of the inspiration for the animated movie "Cars".  I'll be sure to watch the movie again before we go on this roadtrip.
Grand Canyon
Now off to the Mathers Campground at the Grand Canyon.  Gotta make sure we set up camp before it gets dark out, then we can go adventure around and see the Grand Canyon.  I've been to the Grand Canyon before and all I can say is wow.  It's a must see.  It makes me wonder how in the world did mother nature create this?  It must have taken thousands of years.  I'm going to have to look more into the history of the Grand Canyon.  It really just amazes me.  Anyway, it's $25 per car to enter the GC park.

Camping at Mathers is $18/night and you can make reservations at this site.  They have pay showers and I heard they have other amenities so you aren't really roughin it too bad.   The Desert View campground is first come first serve and they say it fills up by the afternoon.  I'd rather be safe than sorry so we are going with Mathers.  Besides, I couldn't resist the possibility of seeing the family of Elk that live around camp.  The campground also has a free shuttle to take you to the visitor center and other Grand Canyon sites.

Stella and I are getting more and more excited!!  Only one week until we leave!

Stella:  We are already best friends, we will be even closer after this trip.
Petunia:  That's for sure.  We will be stuck in a car together for 10 days! haha.
