So we've figured out that we for sure want to go to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. Stella and I decided that we should go by way of Las Vegas first, then off to the Grand Canyon. But what is there to see on the way to Las Vegas from Houston? And where are we going to stay? There is nothing but desert out there.
From Houston to Las Vegas is a LONGGGG drive. 1,463 miles. 23 hours of driving!!! If getting out of Texas doesn't kill us, it will only make us stronger!
We are going to leave around lunchtime on Friday. We'll stop in San Antonio to have dinner on the Riverwalk and see the Alamo. We've both been to the Riverwalk and the Alamo before but what better place to stop, visit and eat on our way out of Texas. Besides I'm always up for a good photo op.
So we originally thought we should stop in Fort Stockton to sleep since there really isn't anything else in Texas on the way to Vegas, and we didn't want to stay in El Paso since we've heard it isn't the safest. While researching campgrounds and hotels in the Fort Stockton, TX area, we discovered they have the World's Largest Road Runner. Umm...Awesome. Definately a photo op!! Thank you Texas Twisted for the info of Paisano Pete, the 10 foot tall Road Runner. http://www.texastwisted.com/attr/paisanopete/

But you know what.....We decided not to stay in Fort Stockton. We will stop to see the Giant Road Runner, BUT that's it. We are going to drive and drive and drive, stopping at weird little roadside shops and napping in the car until we get to Black Canyon City, Arizona. We really wanna get the fun part of the trip started.

We are staying at the Black Canyon City KOA, technically night 2 of the trip. They have cute goats and Matthew Mcconaughey has stayed at this campground before. :) Haha, YES, we are camping. We are girly girls, but we've been camping before. You can't take the country out of the girl as hard as we may try. Besides camping is cheap, and makes this trip more of an awesome adventure.![]() |
| We could only be so lucky to see Matthew McConaughey at the same KOA. |
And we gotta stop at Rock Springs Cafe while we are in this area. I heard it has some tasty pie!
